Four years ago I used a motorbike as transportation to do daily activities. But right now, I rarely use a motorbike as my regular transport. I started to use public transport. Sometimes it’s hard to use public transport for daily commutes. Because in my route my buses didn’t have their own way.
In Jakarta, there are Transjakarta buses, and many of them have their own way. So their way is so steril from another vehicle. It’s fun to use Transjakarta, but Transjaktara, which has its own way, it’s only on downtown. In residential areas, Transjakarta doesn’t have its own way, so if there’s a traffic jam, Transjakarta will be stuck too.
I used Transjakarta for 15 kilometers, if I’m lucky at least I need to spend 90 minutes. If I’m unlucky, I need to spend 120 minutes. I need to spend a lot of time waiting for buses to come, at least 15 minutes, until 20 minutes. And then I need to transit and wait for another bus again, and sometimes I still get stuck because of traffic jams. And, If I use a motorbike, I only need 50 minutes, until 60 minutes. So why do I still use Transjakarta rather than a motorbike?
I do sacrifice
I choose to use public transport for long hours rather than a motorbike, it means I sacrifice. People will sacrifice for what their love is, right? So, let’s say I just love my city. And right now I just sacrificed to use public transport, so my city can be better.
I don’t know if my sacrifice will make my city less carbon, less emissions, or not, but at least I do something significant. According to Medcom.id, motorbikes are the biggest contributor to emissions, reaching 45 percent. So right now, I am no longer an emission contributor.
I can listen to music
It’s very dangerous to listen to music while riding a motorbike. Because if you listen to music while riding a motorbike you will not be able to hear traffic conditions, and somehow it’s just dangerous.
On the bus, or any public transport, of course, I can listen to music, and stay to try to relax. Even in rush hours, it’s still easy to stay relaxed.
I can play sudoku, kakuro, or any puzzle games
I seldom play sudoku, kakuro, or any puzzle games. But when I take Transjakarta or any public transport I just play that game often. I installed a lot of games on my phone, and I didn’t really like to play games, except sudoku, kakuro, or any puzzle games.
I just read an article on the internet, and that article says sudoku and any puzzle can help the brain stay sharp. I hope playing sudoku, kakuro, or any puzzle games can reduce the risk of dementia, so I can still have a healthy brain later. Thanks to public transportation.
I don’t wanna pay for gasoline
You all know gasoline is a little bit expensive right now. In Indonesia, our oil national company, Pertamina, has a product called Pertalite (octane 90), and the prices are always good. But I understand our country must subsidize that oil so the prices are always low.
Because I do sacrifice, so I don’t wanna burden my country, so I choose not to buy Pertalite. No, I’m kidding, I still buy Pertalite, but not often because I use public transport.
